Emerson Antelope Hunt

Panoramic of The Downare Ranch

Rising at 4am to arrive outside Hartsel, we were pretty tired by the early afternoon. We sat down in a recess a couple of feet lower than the rest of the prairie to scope the landscape with our nautical binoculars, and decided it was a good place for a nap. That was a pretty incredible feeling to be sleeping out under the sun……on land where antelope roam wild and three separate herds of buffalo, yak, and horses graze. Emerson carried his single shot scoped .243, and though he was unable to place his shot (all of which were at 300+ yards), we did roll over after our nap to see an amazing pronghorn buck watching over us some 800 yards away. It was a great day!
